| Abstract: | "Travelling is the best way of learning for an architect, to see things live. You can not create things from nothing".2 Traveling is crucial in the production and work of past and present figures of Architecture as seen in the case of Le Corbusier, Siza Vieira, Richard Neutra and others. Having the awareness of the importance and contribution of the "journey" in the architect's education and cultural formation, here comes the opportunity to use the experience of discovering a city to carry out the final course work. Contextualized by Manhattan's actual urbanistic and architectural situation, this work's production exalts the creation of a narrative about Urbanism and Architecture themes, seized through the observation of the "photographic memory" acquired in two trips to Manhattan Island in 2009 and 2011 . Being a "photograph" the visual record that best represents the reality and image of an environment, the research method used was to filtering, interpretation and structuration of the information itself from the set of about 4000 images collected with the aim of boosting a relationship between personal and individual experience and the organization and transferability of knowledge. |
| Description: | A melhor aprendizagem para um arquitecto é viajar, ver as coisas em directo. Não se pode criar coisas de nada".1 Viajar é determinante na produção e obra de figuras do passado e da actualidade da Arquitectura como se verifica nos casos de Le Corbusier, Siza Vieira, Richard Neutra entre outros. Da consciência da importância e contributo da "viagem" na formação e construção cultural do arquitecto, surge, aqui, a oportunidade de utilizar a experiência da descoberta de uma cidade para a realização do trabalho de final de curso. Contextualizada pela situação urbanística e arquitectónica actual de Manhattan, a elaboração da presente prova exalta a criação de uma narrativa sobre temáticas de Urbanismo e Arquitectura apreendidas através da observação da "memória fotográfica" adquirida em duas viagens à ilha de Manhattan no ano de 2009 e 2011. Sendo a "fotografia" o registo visual que melhor representa a realidade e imagem de um meio ambiente, o método de investigação consistiu na filtragem, interpretação e estruturação da informação própria do conjunto de cerca de 4000 imagens recolhidas, com o intuito de potenciar uma relação entre a experiência pessoal e individual e a organização e transmissibilidade do conhecimento. |
