| Abstract: | Held under the Master of Architecture of Faculty of Architecture, University of Oporto, the study carried out is based on the study of clay brick, having Aveiro region as background. The scarcity of stone and the abundance of clays and sands in relation to the lithology, dictated a strong tradition of use of structural ceramics in construction, particularly in buildings of industrial character. Being an unexplored material in Portuguese architecture, the objective of this study is to know clay brick as a construction material, to contextualize it in the vernacular and contemporary architecture of Aveiro region, and understand the relevance of its use nowadays. |
| Description: | Realizada no âmbito do Mestrado Integrado em Arquitetura da Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade do Porto, a dissertação apresentada assenta no estudo do tijolo cerâmico de face à vista, tendo como cenário a região de Aveiro. A escassez da pedra e a abundância de argilas e areias no que à litologia diz respeito, ditaram uma forte tradição de utilização de cerâmica estrutural na construção, nomeadamente em edifícios de carácter industrial. Por ser um material pouco explorado na arquitetura portuguesa, o objetivo deste trabalho é conhecer o tijolo de face à vista enquanto material de construção, contextualizá-lo na arquitetura vernacular e contemporânea da região Aveirense, e perceber qual a pertinência da sua utilização nos dias de hoje. |
