Pensamento arquitectónico na obra de Válter Hugo Mãe

Abstract

The relationship between architecture and literature has been forgotten over time and therefore the space shared between these two fields of knowledge is the object of study of this investigation. This space is achieved through a literary process that presupposes an architectural thought - which reflects on the space and the relationship of people with that space - in the literature. The intention is to discuss some issues of architectural kind expressed throughout the storyline, but does not seek to find a close and definitive answer to exhaust the possibilities of thinking, looking, however, to validate this possibility as a research method. In the first chapter of this research, arguments that validate the literature as a tool of analysis are presented, always using methodological and analytical support as proof, the doctoral thesis of the spanish architect José Joaquín Parra Bañon " Architectural Thought in the Work of José Saramago". The arguments presented confirm the first premise of this work: in literature exist expressions of an architectural thought. In the second chapter, this new instrument is applied in a object of analysis - the book "The Spanish Maker Machine" of Valter Hugo Mãe, the winner at 2007 of the literary prize of José Saramago. The author weighs factors such as loneliness and submission, key elements in creating atmospheres and creating relationships with the architecture. Thus validates the second premise of this work: in the work of Valter Hugo Mãe there is architecture in the conception of spaces.
