Abstract

This thesis aims to investigate the conceptual and methodological specifications that arise at the level of the architectural project in programs that respond to humanitarian aid situations caused by physical catastrophe or serious social problems. The extent these problems are assuming in the global context and the amount of responses produced have contributed to consolidate a new disciplinary field and make its analysis and evaluation become relevant. The underpinning of this study resorted to the analysis of specific cases, trying to contextualize them on the circumstances of the order and the place and to programmatic and constructive conditions. The examples shown are the result of a selection headed by three criteria: a chronological marking trying to comprehend projects exclusively made in the present century; an enlarged geographic scope that allows to illustrate the widest range of socio - economic - cultural contexts; Finally, attempting to ensure a good typological representativity in order to cover a broad spectrum of interventions that goes from the simplest architectural objects, such as tents, to the more complex like the permanent public facilities . This topic is structured in three fields that, in good part, structure the intervention sequence of the operations: The territorial dimension and implantation strategies, the design of the architectural units and the implementation and construction of the proposals.
