| Title: | Processos de transformação na frente de água de Buenos Aires: o caso Puerto Madero |

| Abstract: | Buenos Aires is an unusual coastal city. Even though a large extension of its limits borders the waterfront, the latter is neglected, as the relation with the river is mostly inexistent. The city's harbour and airport are the main structures that have inhibited that connection, in addition to the vast network of railways, highways and several other infrastructures laid beside the river throughout the times. However, ahead of the city's historical center, the old harbour renovated: the Puerto Madero. This renovation is associated with a worldwide movement starting from the 60's in which the relocation of many harbours due to the evolution of maritime transportation culminated in an effort to redevelop the obsolete urban space. In this work purpose to analyse the urban redevelopment of Puerto Madero, seeking to deeply study the morphologic dialog between the said harbour and the additional urban fabric, further elaborating on the impact and consequences of this operation on the territorial and social configuration of the Argentinean capital. It also aspires to analyse the countless interventions on the city's waterfront from the beginning to the end of the twentieth century. |
| Description: | Buenos Aires é uma cidade costeira invulgar, que apesar de grande parte do seu perímetro ser definido por água, se ergue de costas voltadas para o seu rio, sendo a sua relação quase inexistente. Esse encerramento para o rio é materializado sobretudo pelo porto e o aeroporto, aos quais se somam uma vasta rede de linhas férreas, autoestradas e infraestruturas, localizadas ao longo de uma extensa linha de costa, que durante os vários períodos da história surgiram em detrimento do desenvolvimento da cidade junto do seu rio. No entanto, diante do seu centro histórico ergue-se a reconversão do antigo porto da cidade: o Puerto Madero. Esta ação de renovação insere-se num contexto mundial, onde a partir dos anos 60, as cidades portuárias pareciam estar determinadas em requalificar os seus portos obsoletos resultantes da evolução do transporte marítimo e respectiva desindustrialização. O presente trabalho pretende analisar a intervenção urbana de Puerto Madero e procura aprofundar o seu diálogo urbano-morfológico com a restante cidade de Buenos Aires, compreendendo as consequências e os impactos desta operação na configuração territorial e social da capital argentina. Pretende-se também analisar os inúmeros processos de transformações na frente de água da cidade porteña, que se estabeleceram desde os seus primórdios até aos finais do século XX - início da reconversão portuária. |
