Abstract

The present dissertation aims to explore the relationship between the non specialized individual and architecture, namely in terms of housing. Understanding that in single-family housing the one who designs and the one who inhabits the space are too close to each other, we will be focused in multi-family housing. It matters, in that sense, to understand broad scenarios, representative of contemporary dwelling. To do so, we will address the inhabitant in his physical, sensitive and perceptive aspects, as an individual and as a collective. And then the individual, familiar and social elements which determine the needs and characteristics of the relationship between the inhabitant and his domestic space. It will then be established an approach to project design, upon which we will reflect about the correlation between space configuration and ways of inhabiting. The subsequent observation of examples of different kinds of housing production will be based on the anthropological, sociological and phenomenological studies made, which will lead to the thinking of current housing and alternative housing and their influences on the individual. Finally, we will present projects of ephemeral installations - from the most architectonic to the most artistic - here suggested as enhancers of a more complete understanding of the relationship with space. It is meant to check the possibility and pertinence of a state of closer match between inhabitant and inhabited space, based on the development of the individual's perceptive skills.
