Title: Behaviour of embedded Bragg grating sensors
Issue Date: 2006
Abstract: In this paper, an attempt is made to evaluate the performance of fibre Bragg grating sensors, when embedded into a carbon composite plate whose final purpose is to be used as strain sensors for a structure in analyse bonding it at its surface. The strain response of the composite sensor plate to longitudinal strain is compared to electrical strain gages. A three dimensional finite element analysis is also proposed to understand the relation between the strain measured by the FBG sensor and the strain imposed to the composite specimen submitted to tensile loading. The benefits and drawbacks of using such sensor plates are discussed.
