Title: High priority traffic separation in shared Ethernet networks

Abstract: In this paper, it is proposed an enhanced algorithmfor the collision resolution in shared Ethernet networks.Such algorithm, referred as high priority BinaryExponential Backoff (h-BEB), provides high prioritytraffic separation, enabling the support of real-timecommunications. To our best knowledge, the h-BEBalgorithm is the first collision resolution algorithm thatallows Ethernet standard devices to coexist with modifiedstations in the same network segment, imposing higherpriority for the transfer of privileged traffic. Theprobabilistic and simulation analysis of the trafficseparation shows that it guarantees for an h-BEB stationa predictable and significantly smaller access delay,when compared with the access delay for standardEthernet stations.
