| Title: | Pedras, montes e protecções : a religião no norte pré-cristão |
| Issue Date: | 2013-04-13 |
| Abstract: | Legends, beliefs, superstitions and folklore insinuate fragmentary images of ancient religions. In the North of the Iberian Peninsula, such as in Galicia, several series have been researched (funerary monuments, sanctuaries, inscriptions, sculpture) that usually appear associated to studies and surveys on chapels, crosses or churches, which thus consecrated the new Christian space. This appropriation of the sacred space, since Saint Martin of Braga, was conducted against the Roman religion and embraced previous religions under the term of superstitions. The crossing of places of Castro civilisation, where pilgrimages and peregrinations gained relevance, establishes a significant series of sacred mounts and stones which are repeated in a seemingly unrelated series, the rocks and stones of Moors also shrouded in enchantment, which popular tradition and naming have conserved. |
