| Title: | The public space in the restructuring of the portuguese metropolitan city: the Metro do Porto case |
| Issue Date: | 2012 |
| Description: | In the outer parts of the city, urban design and public space has been conceived, in general, with a short-term vision, and devoid of an overall view of the city. Taking into account this situation, the general question that this paper will seek to address is the extent to which it becomes possible to confer a shape and an order to the metropolitan city from the project of public space. Specifically, we aim to address the problem of restructuring of the metropolitan city, taking as an example the project of Metro do Porto (1st phase), seeking to clarify the extent to which this intervention was decisive in creating a more consistent articulation (in terms of formal and functional aspects), between the central and consolidated city, and their outer and expansion areas. |
