Imagens cartográficas da vitalidade económica da Ria de Aveiro em 1934

Abstract

The present cartographic exercise is based on the work Porto e Ria de Aveiro. Notícia sobre o seu valor económico, published in 1936 by the Junta Autónoma da Ria de Aveiro. This document resulted from the discussions (that go back to the middle of the 18th century) on the importance of building and developing the Aveiro harbour as the key factor towards a successful economical increment of the Ria de Aveiro and its hinterland. The text contains much information on the potentials and resources of this area, thus justifying the need from the Government to intervene. Therefore, my decision to map the salt industry and consequent importance in the local commercial circuits, considering the amount of spatial data never used before.
