Abstract

This paper presents the first great manifestation by the population against the creation of the Royal Oporto Wine Company, a manifestation that, due to the violence of the verbal threats made by a furious crowd, the infuriated reports immediately sent to Lisbon and, above all, the political context, was transformed into a tremendous riot that the political power compelled the Court to classify it as a crime against the King.
