A Presença da Mulher no Espaço Público. Percursos Femininos na Arquitetura Portuguesa

Abstract

In several other fields, women's contributions have often been rejected and underestimated, which has led to the shaping of a reality in which female experience and opinion are systematically made invisible. Therefore, the investigation seeks to question the idea of neutrality that structures the fields of architecture and urbanism and to confirm the inequalities experienced by all those who diverge from the normative body, implied in the production of space and systematically valued by social constructions. Methodologically, the selected bibliographic sources, combined with data from statistical studies, as well as the interviews and the survey conducted within the scope of this dissertation, made it possible to analyse these premises in the national context, with the necessary framing within the international context. An evolution in the presence of women in education, in the profession and in the city was perceptible, as well as an increase in respect for the rights of women and other groups. Nevertheless, the achievement of full neutrality and inclusion remains distant, and therefore, in the final stage of the investigation, feminist urbanism is addressed as a possible solution for the progress of these demands.
