| dc.description.abstract | Cities are home to the majority of the world's population. Yet, beyond that, they serve as engines of development and prime spaces for mixing and innovation. They have undergone numerous transformations and have been the source of many global shifts. Today, they are experiencing a new kind of existence, as many of their inhabitants are merely passing through - tourists, digital nomads, people with multiple residences, international students, and short - to medium-term immigrants. Their transformation is often characterized - particularly in Portugal - by rising land prices and changing land use, driven by processes of gentrification and "touristification". These processes frequently overlap to create a phenomenon of "gentro-touristification" that challenges the very classical definition of the city, demanding a fresh perspective and new policies. | |
