Entre a Prática e a Reflexão: Um Percurso de Desenvolvimento Profissional em Educação Física

Abstract

This Teaching Practicum was produced as part of the 'Professional Internship' module, which forms part of the second year of the master's degree in Teaching Physical Education in the Basic and Secondary Education at the Faculty of Sport, University of Porto. This document aims to reflect on the entire journey undertaken throughout the academic year, presenting the main experiences, difficulties, lessons learnt and significant moments in teaching practice. Throughout the internship, different contexts and challenges were encountered, which contributed to the development of professional teaching identity in terms of planning, assessment, instruction and pedagogical feedback, reflection on practice, the pedagogical relationship with students, and the ability to adapt to different teaching contexts. The experience in sports coaching proved to be both an advantage and a challenge, requiring an ability to adapt to the specific demands of teaching Physical Education. The document also includes a research project related to the theme of taking students' preferences into account when planning Physical Education lessons and their possible influence on student engagement and learning. The study provided an understanding of the importance attached by teachers and students to valuing students' voices in the teaching-learning process, reinforcing the need to promote more meaningful and contextualized experiences in Physical Education lessons. In addition to classroom teaching, the placement also involved taking part in various activities organized by the Physical Education department, which helped to foster greater engagement with the school community and a better understanding of the various aspects of this profession. Thus, this report, rather than merely describing events, portrays a process of critical reflection on the experiences I have had and their impact on the development of my identity as a future Physical Education teacher.
