| Abstract: | This dissertation focuses on the Nadir Afonso Museum, designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira, understood as a work in which architecture and place are mutually constructed. More than an autonomous object, the museum emerges as a responsive structure shaped by environmental, cultural, and socio‑spatial relationships, which are anchored both in the landscape of the Tâmega River and in the architectural design. Rooted in modern heritage, the guiding thread of the dissertation is the museum's tourist vocation, its multiple uses, and its condition as a space of appropriation that not only displays, but also symbolises, the passage of time in the city and the abandonment that once marked its margins. |
| Description: | A presente dissertação centra-se no Museu Nadir Afonso, de Álvaro Siza Vieira, procurando compreendê-lo como uma obra onde arquitectura e lugar se constroem mutuamente. Mais do que um gesto autónomo, o projecto surge como resposta a um território marcado por permanências, rupturas e sucessivas transformações, onde a memória urbana e a paisagem do Tâmega se tornam matéria activa do desenho. Entre a herança moderna, os vestígios existentes e a sensibilidade de Siza perante o sítio, o Museu afirma-se como um processo contínuo de reconstrução: não apenas física, mas também simbólica, reinscrevendo na cidade aquilo que o tempo e o abandono haviam deixado à margem. |
