| Issue Date: | 2020-12-14 |
| Abstract: | The person with Down syndrome, presents delay and slowness in the performance of motor tasks with coordination requirements compared to the person with typical development. However, research in this field hasn't been consensual when compared between these groups or in intra group comparisons in people with Down syndrome, regarding biological or biosocial variables. The main objective of this dissertation was to carry out a literature review regarding manual dexterity in people with Down syndrome due to gender, age, evaluated limb, presence of disability, compared to typical development, intervention program and manual preference, in order to better understand this theme and, thus, improve the motor intervention programs of this population. The selected studies were found using the terms "Down Syndrome", "Trisomy 21", "manual dexterity", "hand dexterity", "hand coordination", "global manual dexterity", "fine manual dexterity" and "motor coordination" and, also in Portuguese "síndrome de Down", "Trissomia 21", "destreza manual", "destreza da mão", "coordenação da mão", "destreza manual global", "destreza manual fina" and "coordenação motora" on the following platforms: pubmed, google scholar, scielo, Web of Science, Ebscohost and b-on. In addition, all articles were published in the period from January 2010 to May 2020. Through this review it was possible to observe, regarding manual, global and fine destruction, a lack of consensus regarding gender, evaluated member, intervention program and manual preference, difference in age and lower performance in population with Down syndrome compared to the people with typical development. It is concluded that the intervention in the population with Down syndrome when it comes to manual, global and fine dexterity, it still scarce, with the need to be further investigated, with larger samples, with specific instruments that trigger the recovery processes. |
