Achieving sporting success in handball depends on a complex set of factors and circumstances. In this equation, physical capacity and its optimization through training are fundamental requirements when aiming to achieve high levels of performance. Hence the need to know the physical demands of the sport, master and adapt the training methodologies, control the load and observe how the athlete adapts and reacts to the stimuli provided through various tools and instruments. It will be about the application of tools for the perception of effort and well-being and perspectives of the players on methodologies of physical fitness training that this dissertation deals with. More specifically, the objective was to know, understand and analyze the players' perception and perspectives regarding physical preparation as opposed to the requirements of the competition, period of the season, type of training, and training constraints. To this end, two studies were carried out with the following objectives: Study 1 - Analyze the application of two subjective scales (Subjective Perception of Effort - PSE and Hooper Index - HI) to control the training load and the perception of handball players about their " physical well-being "and level of effort in training/games during a sports season; Study 2 - to know and understand the opinion of handball players regarding the physical preparation training before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to understand and analyze the difficulties experienced to continue the physical preparation, at home. The main conclusions were: the PSE and HI scales allow easy access to relevant information about training/game loads and the well-being of the players, being able to assist in the control and measurement of loads of different types of training; the training of physical condition and injury prevention is essential in the sports preparation of handball players; the players experienced several constraints in training at home, being affected physiologically, psychologically and emotionally; athletes and coaches must be prepared for possible future situations of social isolation.
