| Issue Date: | 2020-11-23 |
| Abstract: | At a time when progress appears overnight, where there are more and more mutations and advances, discourses about the body of women and the roles that they play in society continue to be the target of critical eyes and often judgments that do not they contribute to a social, cultural, political and sporting place of equity, in a society that seeks inclusion. The overall aim of this study was to understand the view of the sport of Pole Dance, specifically in the lives of women, in addition to demystifying preconceived images of society and showing benefits of the sport in the physical and emotional health of practicing women. In order to understand the perspectives of non-practitioners and practitioners of the Pole Dance modality, according to their experiences, a qualitative methodology was used, with the realization of Focus Groups. Two online focus groups were conducted: the first with the participation of 8 women, between 26 and 34 years of age, who do not practice Pole Dance, the second focus group with 12 women who practice Pole Dance, between 29 and 48 years of age. In the two focus groups, a female population of different nationalities and contexts of residence was obtained. From the speeches of the participants, they highlight discriminatory and preconceived conceptions, thus distancing themselves from the real environment of Pole Dance. On the other hand, the practitioners' speeches showed a great relevance of practicing Pole Dance in their emotional health, mainly in the component of psychological well-being regarding positive relationships with others. Another factor to be highlighted is the way in which the motivation of the practitioners to practice Pole Dance becomes an intrinsic motivation with the course of the practice, showing the pleasure they feel for this sport. |
