Um elemento de arcada românica no Mosteiro de S. Miguel de Refojos

Abstract

Written sources suggest the existence of a temple in medieval times, which was demolished during the construction of the monastery of S. Miguel de Refojos de Basto. Some archaeological work carried out throughout a substantial lapse of time brought to light both funerary and architectural evidence dating to middle age, thus documenting the existence of the oldest phase of this monastery. In addition to the magnifi cent medieval chalice donated by D. Gueda Mendes, the most signifi cant items are the rock carved graves, the fragment of a granite sarcophagus, part of a cornice decorated arch, and medieval wall stones with mason's marks, which were reused in the monastery dining hall.
