Abelardo, os universais e as Ideias: platonismo, não-realismo e nominalismo na primeira metade do séc. XII

Abstract

Given that Abelard is one of the most studied authors of the 12th century, the debate is still open today concerning not only his position in the dispute that, in the 12th century, pitted Vocalesor Nominales against Reales, but also, in particular his 'nomina-lism'. Besides, research has favoured the question of universals as a central issue in characterising Abelard's nominalism, and even the nominalism of the 12th century. Starting from the doctrine on universals set out in the Glosses to Porphyry of his Logica ingredientibus, we propose here a reassessment of the main historiographical orienta-tions, concerning some of the most relevant Platonic elements in these pages, as well as their implications for our understanding of the emergence and characterisation of the so-called first medieval nominalism, particularly with regard to the foundation of reasoning and knowledge.
