Silos da Terceira: memórias e visões futuras para o património industrial

Abstract

This dissertation aims to present an investigation of an abandoned building - a battery of silos - and to establish a plan that defends the reconversion and preservation of this structure, considering its classification as industrial heritage, focusing on an identity of a people and a past. Developed following a case study methodology and envisioned as a preliminary investigation to the elaboration of a programmatic proposal for the building and its surroundings, the project work presented here is guided by three key questions: What is the identity of a population and how is the industrial heritage constituted for the creation of the present(s) and future(s)?· In what way the general criteria of space organization and building insertion promote an urban dynamic adapted to the present day?· How the intervention and reconversion in the ruin may constitute a future element of management and planning in the territory, of promotion and valorization of a classified and protected area by UNESCO? The case study of this dissertation is the SILOTER building, in Angra do Heroísmo. The characterization of this space reports to its current architectural state - in ruin. In order to enrich this characterization, a concept of adaptability of industrial architecture is presented and options for the reconversion of the building into habitable spaces are analyzed. Given that the case study of this dissertation corresponds to a model of architectural programming, which has as identification vector "a new vision of silo", it was sought to identify how a new vision is representative of the past that was inserted in this urban context and projects a promising future. In short, through interviews and meetings with citizens, students, owner and the C.M.A.H., an urban intervention and the creation of a comprehensive proposal for the spaces mentioned was taken as the structuring principle.
