Pedro de Barcelos entre a Bíblia e Aristóteles

Abstract

In a poem that is part of his brief songbook, Pedro de Barcelos offers an enigmatic reflection on life, death and, above all, divine power - one that has aroused little critical attention, and whose understanding remains far from satisfactory. We refer to the song "Nom quer'a Deus por mia morte rogar", which this article seeks to reinterpret in the light of the intellectual milieu of the time, characterized by a marked naturalistic and Aristotelian orientation. In this context, the commentaries on the Book of Job and, especially, on Ecclesiastes, prove particularly significant.
