Diálogos entre Passado e Presente: A expressão arquitetónica de Diener & Diener

Abstract

This work proposes a reflection on contemporary interventions on the built herritage, from theoretical discussions about heritage and the city to projects built in historical contexts. This analysis is based on a study of projects by the swiss studio Diener & Diener Architekten, whose sensitive and respectful approach to pre-existing structures defines its portfolio. The research focuses on two case studies: the redevelopment of the former Warteck brewery block (1991-1996) in Basel and the intervention at the Natural History Museum in Berlin (1995-2018). Both cases are examined on different scales-from the object to the city-and demonstrate how architecture can mediate themes such as memory, identity, and expression in different contexts. By exploring not only the formal solutions, but above all the conceptual and contextual foundations of the interventions, this dissertation explores architecture as a facilitator of dialogue between different times.
