Abstract

Professional Internship: The Diary of a Girl Who Once Dreamed of Being a Teacher Like Her Mother is a document created within the framework of the Professional Internship Curriculum Unit, part of the Master's Degree in Physical Education Teaching in Basic and Secondary Education. The beginning of this story comes to life long before embarking on this master's program, during the times I would run from one gymnasium to another, watching the classes of my greatest role model-my mother. A story that began to be written by a small seed planted within me, which I nurtured unknowingly. The internship took place at Ermesinde Secondary School, within an Internship Group composed of four student teachers, guided by the Cooperating Teacher and the Supervising Professor. With this document, I aim to share the experiences and lessons gained in a real-world teaching context, where the teaching-learning process and the social and cognitive skills of the student teacher are put to the test through interactions with the assigned classes. Moreover, the document seeks to highlight the significance of the teaching profession, the role of the teacher as an educator, and the importance of fostering the cognitive, social, and motor development of students. It emphasizes the implementation of strategies to strengthen the teacher-student relationship from the very beginning. The document is structured into six chapters, ranging from Personal Background to Professional Practice. It addresses Initial and Future Expectations, describes the Cooperating School, the Assigned Classes, the Cooperating Teacher, and the Supervising Professor, and concludes with reflections on the Internship Group. It then delves into the Execution of Practice, discussing not only the planning phase but also the duality of emotions experienced with two distinct classes, with a particular focus on student demotivation. Finally, it explores Professional Development. I conclude this diary with a detailed and reflective account of the experiences lived.
