| Abstract: | This master's dissertation consists of the development, study, and proposal of an architectural intervention for a property located in Penafiel, in the parish of Rio Mau, with the aim of enhancing the memory, landscape, and identity of the place. The research begins with a detailed analysis of the property's geographical, historical, constructive, and landscape context, highlighting its strong connection with nature, the rugged topography, and the proximity to the Douro river, as well as the evolution of the built ensemble and the existing pathologies. This analysis identifies potentialities and challenges that guide the intervention, ensuring the preservation of elements with symbolic value while meeting technical, functional, and normative requirements. The dissertation is also grounded in theoretical reflection on architecture and landscape, articulating the heritage of vernacular architecture with modernity through the study of works by Fernando Távora and Álvaro Siza Vieira. The analyses of the Summer House in Ofir, the Casa de Chá da Boa Nova, and the Alcino Cardoso House allow the extraction of methodological principles for harmonious integration with the site, dialogue between pre- -existing and new construction, and attention to materiality and scale, guiding the Rio Mau project towards a contemporary approach rooted in the identity of the place. The final proposal materializes these principles through the creation of a small-scale, family-oriented, and intimate accommodation, integrating new volumes with pre-existing structures and the topography of the land. The spatial organization explores the relationship between social and private areas, circulation, and visual framing, while the material palette combines traditional and contemporary elements, creating a contemporary architecture deeply connected to its context. This work demonstrates how a sensitive and well-founded intervention can preserve the memory and landscape value of a place while meeting the demands of functionality, comfort, and modernity. |
| Description: | A presente dissertação de mestrado consiste na elaboração, estudo e proposta de intervenção arquitetónica para uma propriedade localizada em Penafiel, na freguesia de Rio Mau, com o objetivo de valorizar a memória, a paisagem e a identidade do lugar. A investigação inicia-se com um diagnóstico detalhado do contexto geográfico, histórico, construtivo e paisagístico da propriedade, destacando a forte relação com a natureza, a topografia acidentada e a presença do rio Douro, bem como a evolução do conjunto edificado e as patologias existentes. A análise permite identificar potencialidades e desafios que orientam a intervenção, de forma a preservar elementos de valor simbólico, ao mesmo tempo que responde a exigências técnicas, funcionais e regulamentares. A dissertação fundamenta-se ainda na reflexão teórica sobre arquitetura e paisagem, articulando a herança da arquitetura popular com a modernidade a partir do estudo das obras de Fernando Távora e Álvaro Siza Vieira. As análises da Casa de Férias em Ofir, da Casa de Chá da Boa Nova e da Casa Alcino Cardoso permitem extrair princípios metodológicos de integração harmoniosa com o lugar, diálogo entre preexistência e nova construção e atenção à materialidade e escala, orientando o projeto para Rio Mau de forma a reinterpretar a tradição sem recorrer a meras reproduções formais. A proposta final materializa estes princípios através da criação de um alojamento de pequena escala, familiar e intimista, integrando novos volumes com estruturas pré-existentes e a topografia do terreno. A organização espacial explora a relação entre áreas sociais e privadas, os percursos e os enquadramentos visuais, enquanto a materialidade combina elementos tradicionais e contemporâneos, criando uma arquitetura atual profundamente ligada ao contexto. Este trabalho demonstra como uma intervenção sensível e fundamentada pode preservar a memória e o valor paisagístico de um lugar, enquanto responde às exigências de funcionalidade, conforto e contemporaneidade. |
