Abstract

The grid is one of the most discreet and persistent instruments in architecture. It arises from the elementary intersection of lines, but expands as a matrix capable of supporting design thought, organizing space, and giving coherence to form. At the same time, it reveals itself to be flexible, open, able to embrace variation and support creativity. The grid reveals itself as a transversal language, present in the cities we inhabit, in the books we read, in the music that guides us, or in the screens that shape our daily lives today. In this investigation, the grid is taken as a center of reflection in the construction of architectural design, especially in the context of multifamily housing. Seemingly rigid, the grid proves fertile, capable of revealing the order hidden in the disorder of the world. It asserts itself as a design medium, a cultural image, and one of the most subtle resources with which humans shape space, time, and the experience of living.
