| Abstract: | The relevance of photography in architectural heritage intervention is undeniable. Photography plays an important role in documenting, analysing and interpreting the state of conservation of buildings, particularly in material reconstruction, memory preservation, technical validation and socio-cultural negotiation. The relevance of photography in architectural heritage intervention is undeniable. Photography plays an important role in documenting, analysing and interpreting the state of conservation of buildings, particularly in material reconstruction, memory preservation, technical validation and socio-cultural negotiation. However, there is an intangible poetic dimension that captures the marks of everyday use, the rituals of utilization and social dynamics, introducing other dimensions into the practice of intervention in architectural heritage. The research is methodologically structured in three complementary parts: analysis of the impact of photography on heritage policies, research into the role of photography in intervention practices applied to modern architecture through Docomomo International, and a propositional synthesis of the technical and poetic values of photography, focusing on decoding its poetic dimension and the potential of digital techniques (photogrammetry, laser scanning) to reveal invisible layers of heritage. The research shows that photography, enhanced by digital technologies, enables not only the reading of physical layers, but also the intangible layers of the built environment. As a central contribution, we propose a methodology that incorporates photography as an active tool in all stages of the architectural intervention process, with the aim of ensuring more informed, rigorous and sensitive decisions regarding the historical and testimonial value of built heritage. |
| Description: | É irrefutável a relevância da fotografia na intervenção do património arquitetónico. A fotografia desempenha um papel relevante para a documentação, análise e interpretação do estado de conservação do edificado, principalmente na reconstituição material, preservação da memória, validação técnica e negociação sociocultural. No entanto, há uma dimensão intangível poética, que captura as marcas do uso quotidiano, os ritos de utilização e as dinâmicas sociais, introduzindo outras dimensões na prática de intervenção no património arquitetónico. A investigação estrutura-se metodologicamente em três partes complementares: análise do impacto da fotografia das políticas do património, investigação do papel da fotografia nas práticas de intervenção aplicadas à arquitetura moderna através da Docomomo Internacional e síntese propositiva das valências técnicas e poéticas da fotografia, com enfoque na descodificação da sua dimensão poética e no potencial das técnicas digitais (fotogrametria, laser scanning) para revelar estratos invisíveis do património. A investigação evidencia que a fotografia, potencializada pelas tecnologias digitais, possibilita não só a leitura de camadas físicas, mas também as camadas intangíveis do edificado. Como contributo central, propomos uma metodologia que incorpora a fotografia como instrumento ativo em todas as etapas do processo de intervenção arquitetónica, com o objetivo de assegurar decisões mais fundamentadas, rigorosas e sensíveis ao valor histórico e testemunhal do património construído. |
