Entre Desafios e Conquistas: A Construção da Minha Identidade Docente em Educação Física

Abstract

This report was prepared within the scope of the curricular unit Professional Internship of the second year of the Master's Degree in Teaching Physical Education in Primary and Secondary Education at the Faculty of Sport of the University of Porto. Its purpose is to describe, analyze, and reflect on the pedagogical practices developed throughout the internship, which took place at Escola Básica e Secundária Dr. Ângelo Augusto da Silva, in Funchal. The school placement involved teaching a resident class of the 12th grade in a professional course for Sports Technicians, as well as occasional interventions in lower secondary classes. Under the guidance of both the Cooperating Teacher and the Supervising Professor, the Professional Internship provided the opportunity to translate theoretical knowledge into pedagogical practice, through an immersive experience in the school environment that strengthened key competencies for the teaching profession. The present report is structured in eight chapters and reflects the learning outcomes achieved, the challenges overcome, and the goals accomplished throughout this training process. In its final part, it includes a research project entitled "The Impact of Self-Esteem on the Motivation of Secondary School Students in Physical Education Classes", which enabled a deeper understanding of the relationship between self-esteem and different types of motivation. This internship thus represented a decisive stage of both personal and professional development, marked by challenges, achievements, and meaningful learning experiences, which consolidated teaching identity and reinforced motivation for the practice of the profession.
