Title: Operational Modal Analysis of Moving Scaffolding Systems for Bridge Construction
Issue Date: 2024-06-23
Abstract: Moving scaffolding systems (MSS) are complex machines that allow the fast construction of viaducts with several similar spans. Applications of operational modal analysis tools to these structures are rare. However, in the present paper it is demonstrated that the tracking of the modal parameters of these special structures is possible and can bring very relevant advantages. This paper presents the continuous monitoring of a Movable Scaffolding Systems (MSS) under normal operation, used to build in-situ prestressed concrete decks with spans up to 70 m. The experimental campaign included the performance of an ambient vibration test, used to design the permanent monitoring system, and the monitoring of the MSS during the construction of several spans. The obtained results show the possibility of detection of anomalies in the operation of the MSS.
