Raízes de Comunidade: a vinha como estrutura da vila de Cabeção

Abstract

With the theme of two personal reference spaces - a wine cellar and a typical dwelling from the Barros sub-region - this master's dissertation focuses on the geographical and cultural context of the Alentejo village of Cabeção and its architectural and wine heritage. Using keywords such as the notions of community and shared life, the aim is to reflect, from a structural perspective, and to take an interpretation, without rigidly defining these ideas, seeking to understand the dimensions and conditions that shape the sense of community, belonging, and social and urban identity. Based on these concepts, Cabeção is analyzed as a place of the community, taking into account its territory, the lifestyle of its inhabitants, and the structures and methods that support the formation of this collective sense. While exanimating the territory, the vineyard emerges as a focal point, manifesting itself in Cabeção not only as an agricultural, economic, and recreational activity but also as a common value and unifying point for the inhabitants, reflecting their customs and beliefs. The evolution, historical circumstances, and production locations are analyzed, allowing an idea of wineries as spaces with a catalytic character for the community and producers of a common identity. From this point of view, through an analysis, graphical survey and description of these structures, the aim is to reflect on the wine cellar space, both architecturally and anthropologically. Addressing its materials, textures and atmospheres, common characteristics that can be identified will allow to formulate an idea of a typical wine cellar idea, where Talha wine is produced and the family environment and the spirit of sharing experiences that characterize the village of Cabeção are valued.
