| Abstract: | This article analyzes the Jesuit Luis de Molina's (1535-1600) interpretation of the controversial passage from St. Paul's first epistle to Timothy: God wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). In the analysis of the interpretation, the main sources with which Molina dialogues are identified (Augustine, John Damascene and Thomas Aquinas) and Molina's doctrine on the efficacy of divine will and knowledge is studied (through the distinction of different meaings of will in God and the doctrine of middle knowledge). |
| Description: | Este artigo analisa a interpretação que o jesuíta Luís de Molina (1535-1600) faz da controversa passagem da primeira epistola de São Paulo a Timóteo: Deus quer que todos os homens se salvem e cheguem ao conhecimento da verdade (1 Timóteo 2:4). Na análise da interpretação, identificam-se as principais fontes com que Molina dialoga (Agostinho, João Damasceno e Tomás de Aquino) e estuda-se a doutrina de Molina sobre a eficácia da vontade e da ciência divinas (através da distinção de diferentes sentidos de vontade em Deus e da doutrina da ciência média). |
