Castelo dos Mouros (Cadaval, Murça) : muralhas, moedas e muitas dúvidas por resolver

Abstract

The TSF - Territories without borders project aims to enhance the value of the cultural heritage of a vast territory at the border between Murça (Portugal) and Monterrei (Spain), by carrying out archaeological interventions in key places, among which the Moors Castle of Cadaval. Th is settlement, entrenched on a spur over the Tinhela river, has been occupied since the Iron Age and still preserves impressive defensive structures. It is known locally as a treasure hunt spot where thousands of Roman coins were found and taken into private collections, some of which are now part of museum assets. Although the site is crucial for understanding the Roman presence in the region, it has not yet received the attention it deserves. Th e TSF project aims to promote the reconciliation with fi eld work that began in 2024. Th is article reports on this process.
