Abstract

!e staging and display of domestic life through the cutaway format of a representative model of a house, establishes a relationship of similarity and empathy with the viewer due to the familiarity of the actions represented. It is, therefore, an operative presentation format for the correlation between observer and action performed. Bearing in mind the influence of representation in communicating an intention, this dissertation focuses on the valences and range of use of the tool: inhabited cut. Starting from four theatrical sets that inhabited the stage of the Teatro Nacional São João between 2000 and 2020, inhabited cut is observed as the instrument that presents domesticity that, despite being common, is normally hidden. !is tool that allows the staging of everyday life, condenses into a single format the domestic spaces essential to the characterization of the house, allows the assimilation of the time and place it represents and, consequently, the actions that take place there. Based on the relationship between inhabited cut and the exposure of an everyday domestic reality, we intend to study the attributes of this tool, as well as its representation capacity that allows its use in different supports and contexts.
