El espacio sagrado en construcción: el estudio del caso de la Iglesia de San Juan Bautista de Foz do Douro

Abstract

In general, religious buildings are constituted as organic realities where the passage of centuries is perceived both in their architectural structure and in their urban configuration within a specific territory. Transformations that gradually occur from the superimposition of structures and the reuse of materials to the wear and tear of nature or human actions.With this point of view, this article aims to make an analysis of the architectural development of the parish church of São João Batista da Foz do Douro, analyzing those changes that underlie and configure its current conservation. Thus, with this objective, a work is shown that exposes the study of archival sources as well as the same material traces that have reached our days.
