Da Formação à Prática: A Metamorfose de uma Professora de Educação Física

Abstract

This report was carried out as part of the School Placement course in the second year of the master's in teaching physical education in Primary and Secondary Education at the Faculty of Sport, University of Porto. This report aims to describe, analyse, and reflect on the teaching practices developed during the internship, which included Supervised Teaching Practice in two schools, namely the Jaime Moniz Secondary School, with an 11th-grade class, and the Dr. Ângelo Augusto da Silva Primary and Secondary School, where I taught a 6th-grade class. Under the guidance of the Co-operating Teacher and the Supervising Professor, the School Placement provided a practical application of the knowledge acquired during academic training, giving me direct experience in a school context. This document presents the lessons learnt, the challenges faced, and the successes achieved during the internship. It is structured into seven chapters, using an analogy of the process of metamorphosis that takes place in the life of a butterfly. The actual practice in the field comprises the final phase of the metamorphosis process, which is the formation of the butterfly. During this phase, the student trainee consolidates the knowledge acquired and develops the skills needed to become a professional in the field of Physical Education. In the final part of the document, research carried out in motivation, with the aim of understanding the importance of self-esteem and orientation towards teamwork in motivating students in Physical Education classes. This study was carried out over the course of the school year, involving forty-two 11th-grade students from the Jaime Moniz Secondary School. This internship has been a journey full of challenges, learning and, and above all, personal achievements. I take with me not only practical knowledge, but also the certainty that, despite fears and doubts, I managed to overcome them and come out stronger. What remains is a deep sense of gratitude for this transformative experience.
