De Estudante a Professor: A Enriquecedora Caminhada

Abstract

The School Placement entitled "From Student to Teacher: the enriching journey", was created within the scope of the Professional Internship Curricular Unit of the Master's Degree in Teaching Physical Education in Basic and Secondary Education at the Faculty of Sports of the University of Porto. In this document, several obstacles and achievements will be reported that were an integral part of the "enriching journey" of a Preservice Teacher who is faced for the first time with a real context of the profession of Physical Education teacher, in a school located in Porto, experiencing all the complexities associated with teaching, learning and the challenge of transposing into practice everything acquired in theory. What does it mean to be a teacher? How should one act to be a good teacher? The reflective and critical act developed throughout the "journey" proves to be crucial in trying to find answers to these questions, as well as the constant non-conformity and the incessant search for methods that improve practice and consequently student learning. The focus on the student allows this future teacher to substantially improve their planning and teaching of classes, by seeking to bridge motor, behavioral and cognitive discrepancies in the class proposed to them. After the clash with reality, the Intern Student recognizes that the journey begins barefoot and will aim to reach the end of the year with a great base to walk along different trails.
