| Abstract: | This dissertation conducts a research study on the defunct municipality of Santa Cruz de Riba Tâmega, located in the Tâmega and Sousa sub-region. This ancient municipality, which benefited from a charter granted by King Manuel I and was the subject of royal donations between 1513 and 1855, included various territories, jurisdictions, and honors that today correspond to parishes integrated into the current municipalities of Amarante, Felgueiras, Marco de Canaveses, Lousada, and Penafiel. Faced with a pronounced and shared feeling of detachment from the population of Vila Meã (the former seat of the municipality) from the municipality of Amarante, which it now belongs to, this study explores issues of territorial planning and its influence on the socio-historical and cultural structure of the places. It involves a thorough investigation of the local history of the territory of the old municipality, previously scarcely explored, aiming to document the complexity of the transformations that have occurred and identify the existing heritage under the challenging theme of collective identity that shapes and constrains the space. Following a chronological sequence from the earliest settlements to the present condition and future prospects, this study involves creating an extensive set of maps that aim to map the thematic layers and the circumstances associated with the analyzed places, providing a set of clues for the reading of this territory as a whole. Thus, the extensive documentary research and fieldwork on the territorial development of Santa Cruz de Riba Tâmega are condensed into a single document and made available to the community. This dissertation seeks to contribute to the knowledge of the local history of this specific municipality and to present a research methodology that, from the field of architecture and in a fruitful relationship with other disciplines, can be extended to the study of other territories |
| Description: | A presente dissertação desenvolve um estudo de investigação sobre o concelho extinto de Santa Cruz de Riba Tâmega. Situado na sub-região do Tâmega e Sousa, este antigo concelho beneficiou de foral outorgado por D. Manuel I e foi alvo de doações régias, entre 1513 e 1855. Até à data da sua extinção, o concelho albergou diversos territórios, coutos e honras que hoje correspondem a freguesias (ou uniões de freguesias) integradas nos atuais concelhos de Amarante, Felgueiras, Marco de Canaveses, Lousada e Penafiel. Perante um partilhado e expresso sentimento de desvinculação da população de Vila Meã (antiga sede do concelho de Santa Cruz de Riba Tâmega) face ao município de Amarante que atualmente integra, este estudo procura discorrer sobre temas de ordenamento territorial e a sua influência na estrutura sócio-histórica e cultural dos lugares. Para isso, desenvolve-se uma investigação aprofundada da história local do território relativo ao antigo concelho, até então parcamente explorado, procurando documentar a complexidade das transformações nele ocorridas e identificar o património existente, sob a difícil temática da identidade coletiva que configura e condiciona o espaço. Seguindo uma sequência cronológica que parte desde os primeiros assentamentos até à condição presente e perspetivas futuras, este estudo consiste na elaboração de um extenso conjunto de mapas que pretendem cartografar as camadas temáticas e as circunstâncias associadas aos lugares analisados, fornecendo um conjunto de pistas para a leitura deste território como um todo. Deste modo, a vasta consulta documental e o trabalho de campo produzido sobre o desenvolvimento territorial de Santa Cruz de Riba Tâmega são condensados num único documento e disponibilizados à comunidade. Com a presente dissertação, procura-se, assim, contribuir para o conhecimento da história local deste concelho específico, mas também apresentar uma metodologia de investigação que, a partir do campo da arquitetura e numa relação profícua com outras disciplinas, possa ser extensível ao estudo de outros territórios. |
