Abstract

The present dissertation explores the role of the door in architecture, highlighting its potential to unite and separate environments. The essence of this investigation focuses more specifically on the double door, which consists of two independent and adjacent doors. In an initial approach, the analysis uncovers the history, origin, and the meaning of the door to better understand the value of this element in architecture, revealing, through its unique features, its role in transforming spaces. Throughout the study, the double door gains prominence, and its analysis is divided into three distances: minimal, intermediate, and significant. At the minimal distance, the double door stands out for its recurrent use in hotel rooms and its elastic capacity in the home. At the other distances, the doors gain more space between them. Therefore, at the intermediate distance, the space between doors is considered practical. At the significant distance, this space becomes an additional compartment. The study aims to uncover the enigmas introduced by the double door in domestic environments, exploring how the three distances affect the dynamics of the house's spaces.
