| Abstract: | This dissertation is motivated by a personal concern about the abandonment of Quinta das Lages, which, despite its historical and architectural value, has fallen into oblivion. It is proposed, then, to reflect on how to intervene in the ruins of the property, transforming it into a space to welcome visitors and adapting it to current needs. The work explores the relationship between the place and the subject matter, which from this investigation finds themes for the project. The questions and hesitations provided by the confrontation between the architect, the place and the matter that exists in it, built the project based on theoretical research that fuelled the design process. Throughout the process, questions emerged about the place, the buildings and the owners, going beyond the objective of finding a solution for Quinta das Lages. In this sense, the design process oscillates between reading the specificity of the place and its social and historical context, while exploring the way of thinking and intervening in the preexistence. In this work, the paths and directions of the project are recorded in order to find a possible solution for Quinta das Lages. Elements are collected that make it possible to recognise and value a dormant territory waiting for an intervention that is sensitive to the memory of the place. |
| Description: | A presente dissertação é motivada por uma inquietação pessoal perante o abandono da Quinta das Lages que, apesar do seu valor histórico e arquitetónico, caiu no esquecimento. Propõe-se, então, refletir sobre como intervir nas ruínas da propriedade, transformando-a num espaço para acolher visitantes, adaptando-a às necessidades atuais. O trabalho explora relações entre o lugar e a matéria que, a partir dessa investigação encontra temas para o projeto. As interrogações e hesitações, proporcionadas pelo confronto entre quem projeta, o lugar e a matéria que nele existe, propiciaram o projeto, com base na investigação teórica que foi alimentando o processo de projeto. Ao longo do processo deambulou-se em torno de questões que se foram levantando relacionadas com o lugar, os edifícios e os proprietários, ultrapassando o objetivo de encontrar uma solução para a Quinta das Lages. Neste sentido, o processo de projeto oscila entre a leitura da especificidade do lugar e do seu contexto social e histórico, ao mesmo tempo que explora o modo de pensar e de intervir na preexistência. Neste trabalho, registam-se os caminhos do projeto para encontrar uma solução possível para a Quinta das Lages. Colecionam-se elementos que permitem reconhecer e valorizar um território adormecido à espera de uma ação de intervenção, sensível à memória e ao lugar. |
