Um lar onde estacionar: Processo de construção de uma habitação móvel

Abstract

On the pretext of the (self-proposed) project for a mobile housing unit to be edi!ed in a commercial goods van, we reflect on the processes of architectural creation and production and their capacity to capture and materialize the circumstantial storyline of this commission, as well as that of any other which, given its domestic scale, takes on more intimate and personal contours. The values of dwelling are explored - that subversive, emotional, functional and often symbolic gesture of structuring a home -, as well as the added particularities associated with the minimal and/or mobile format. The exercise of miniaturizing the home territory is understood as the power to give it renewed relevance, through the compelling search for the essential character of each of its elements. The presentation of the diferent notions of mobility and its infuence on the responses to housing, required by the new lifestyles of the contemporary technological and consumer society, results in considerations that point to a current and renewed nomadism. Due to the character of a mobile living machine, inherent to the object (van) being developed in this work, and the subjective tampering of the author, recipient, designer and presumed builder, the unavoidable technicality that led to this process is summarized and justifed here, in the hope that it can help those who wish to get involved in other similar endeavours.
