Fronteiras da Criatividade: Interferências da Inteligência Artificial na Prática da Arquitetura

Abstract

Currently, AI is a fast growing and spreading technology, which is interfering in almost every aspect of our daily life, calling into question our future evolution. In this context, this Master's Thesis aims to address how Artificial Intelligence interferes with the domain of creativity in the practice of Architecture, as well as to speculate on its future impact on it. First, the notion of the human being as a creator of tools that help him to achieve greater goals, a characteristic that distinguishes him from other species, is introduced. In turn, the history of tools in Architecture and how Artificial Intelligence (AI) ascends in the same field is studied. Subsequently, under the premise that AI arises from the attempt to recreate the human mind, their relationship and how they converge and diverge through a general understanding of neuroscience is understood. Furthermore, the human creative capacity and how AI enhances it is studied. Finally, opinions are collected that speculate on the current and future impact of AI on Humanity and the practice of Architecture. The conclusions and perceptions that emerged from the workshop held at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto with the purpose of collecting impressions from the academic community are also exposed. This way, it is intended to understand the role and influence of technology, more specifically AI, in the practice of architecture and stimulate interest and curiosity in it.
