| Abstract: | The architecture's work frequently involves an intervention on a pre-existent building and space, challenging the architect with several questions and concerns. To intervene is to modify, therefore the architect should be aware that any attitude he takes will have an impact in the place and in its history. In the context, the analysis and the interpretation appear as fundamental tools to guide and underpin the project's process. Although analysis and interpretation are essential tools in any project, they take on even greater importance when it comes to intervening in the already built environment. They become a priority since they are fundamental to understanding the history and essence of the place. The definition of the project's strategy begins with an analysis of the site. This consists of an assessment of the building and its condition, as well as historical and contextual research. The architect must dive into the History of the site, uncovering its layers and narratives over time. From this analysis, the knowledge present in the traditional forms and the way the materials were used can be comprehended, since they are the reflection of the population's response to the demands of the different eras. In other words, traditional forms evolved over time and this evolution allows the architect to see architectural portential of the pre-existence. However, within the various positions he can take, it is believed that intervening in a pre-existence means working in the dimension of time, in a interpretation of the elements of the past as chapters of a story. Therefore, the new intervention could be a new chapter, allowing the story of the pre-existence to continue to be told. Thus, a practical example is made with the aim of trying to give continuity to the past, bringing it into the present era, in order to respond to contemporary demands, but without excluding the possibility that in the future another intervention could be made depending on the demands of that era. |
| Description: | A prática da arquitetura frequentemente envolve a intervenção em edifícios e espaços pré-existentes, desafiando o arquiteto com inúmeras questões e inquietações. Intervir é modificar, de modo que o arquiteto deve ter em conta que qualquer atitude que possa tomar terá impacto no lugar e na sua história. Neste cenário, a análise e a interpretação surgem como ferramentas cruciais para orientar e fundamentar o processo de projeto. Embora a análise e a interpretação sejam ferramentas essenciais em qualquer ato de projeto, estas adquirem uma importância ainda maior quando se trata de intervir no construído. Tornam-se prioritárias, pois são fundamentais para compreender a história e a essência do lugar. A definição da estratégia de projeto começa por uma análise do lugar. Esta consiste numa avaliação da construção e do seu estado, assim como uma investigação histórica e contextual. O arquiteto deve mergulhar na História do local, desvendando as suas camadas e narrativas ao longo do tempo. A partir dessa análise, perceciona-se o conhecimento presente nas formas tradicionais e no modo como os materiais foram utilizados, uma vez que refletem as respostas que a população encontrou face às exigências das várias épocas. Ou seja, há uma evolução das formas tradicionais ao longo tempo e essa evolução permite ao arquiteto ver o potencial arquitetónico da pré-existência. No entanto, dentro das diversas posturas em que este se pode colocar, julga-se, uma vez que intervir numa pré-existência é trabalhar na dimensão do tempo, numa interpretação dos elementos do passado como capítulos de uma história. Por isso, a nova intervenção poderá ser um novo capítulo, permitindo que a história da pré-existência continue a ser contada. Assim, nesta dissertação efetuou-se um projeto de reabilitação de uma casa da família Vieira Jorge como exemplo prático, sendo o objetivo procurar dar continuidade ao passado, trazendo-o à época atual, de modo a responder às exigências contemporâneas, mas sem excluir a possibilidade de uma intervenção no futuro. |
