Praças Aumentadas: A Condição Híbrida do Espaço Público

Abstract

Information and communication technologies have enabled new ways of experiencing the city, and with that a new approach to urban design has also emerged. New technologies can be used to bring people closer to the public space and stimulate their civic character. Therefore, this thesis seeks to understand the relationships that are established between the digital layer of the city and the public space, having the square element as the object of study, seeking to understand the implications that arise when virtuality becomes part of its spatiality. This thesis is divided into two distinct moments. The first moment aims to understand the materiality that constitutes the element of the square, using an approach that considers both the temporal and multicultural dimensions. Then, the second moment focuses on analyzing the digital layer and its repercussions on the square, investigating how digital technologies are applied to the public space and exploring the consequences of this interaction.
