Abstract

This dissertation is a theoretical-practical project set in a real-life context. Its purpose is to develop a remodelling project for a single-family home located in the city of Amsterdam. The house in question belongs to friends of the author, which gives this academic project a personal character. The house has belonged to the owners since 2008, but the project was built in the late 1990s in an area of the city that was being rebuilt. Over the years, it has been realised that the house does not reflect the lifestyle of the residents, and this is the opportunity to propose a renovation project that better suits the current needs of those who live there. Therefore, through this work, the author has researched and studied the context in which the object of study is inserted, as she is aware that the surroundings influence the conception of a project. In the same way, from her personal perspective and that of the owners, she sought to understand the essence of the house today, in other words, what makes sense to keep and what is essential to rethink in the project, in order to finally present a proposal for intervention. It's important to mention that this project was developed with doubts and uncertainties, but above all with great aspirations. In the course of this work, personal experiences and design references were considered, projects that were only in the drawing board or in the imagination, but that somehow revealed themselves in the development of this proposal. In the end, our references are above all a compilation of our experiences.
