Experiências profissionais significativas geram aprendizagens significativas: trajetos de uma futura docente na construção holística do aluno

Abstract

The School Placement is deemed to take on an essential role within the professional training process of Preservice Teachers. It is integrated in the 2nd year curriculum of the Masters in Teaching of Physical Education in Basic and Secondary Schooling, from the Sports Faculty of the University of Porto. This year was the one we were most looking forward to accomplishing, resulting in a crucial process for personal and professional growth and development. The overall growth was noteworthy throughout the school year, in which we were able to gather valuable knowledge that allowed for the development of new educational approaches, and, at the same time, offered us enriching experiences that were essential for our professional progress. The present document shows the evolution of the students and the Preservice Teacher, throughout the school year, achieved by the implementation of different strategies, following the work approach by education level, and encouraging the active participation of students in the learning process, the use of technology, the implementation of teaching models as a problem-solving strategy, all of this, in combination with studentcentered approaches. Unpredictability was a dominant feature during the school year, since we were faced with a class that displayed little motivation for the practice of Physical Education; consequently, to deal with problems and given challenges, the planning had to be constantly adjusted, to be able to find innovative strategies that would result in positive reactions regarding the students' teaching-learning process. Being aware of the lack of motivation for practical activities and of the readily observed poor social relations, emerged the interest in the study of Social Relations, which allowed us to verify if Physical Education classes had any positive impact on the development of positive social relations.
