| Abstract: | Nowadays, considering the diversity and our ever-changing society in which inequalities are becoming more glaring with the continuous growing impoverishment, intervening with the most disadvantaged communities becomes opportune and extremely relevant. As such, while putting the current housing issue under debate, this dissertation analyzes the need to rethink conventional approaches around social housing, evoking flexibility as a key element in creating solutions more suited to the lifestyles' diversity. The Pasteleira Group of Popular Housing, built under Plano de Melhoramentos of Porto's City, in the period from 1958 to 1960, thus constitutes an opportune case study and testing laboratory. The architecture's limitations and challenges were explored and aimed to propose interventions which reuse existing built structures with the objective of updating them while improving the life quality of its residents. In our consideration, flexibility guarantees the necessary adaptation of the housing cell to the different family's needs and dynamics. This dissertation focuses on the development of solutions capable of creating alternatives to the static and homogenized design principle that characterizes the solutions adopted in these municipal housing units, as well as their relationship with the surrounding city. We conclude by highlighting the need to rethink housing as a fundamental right and an investment in the population's well-being, taking into account the complex social and cultural realities of contemporary society, as well as considering the importance of projecting to solve not only the present's problems, but also the futures. Based on the reflection and proposal presented, we plan on contributing to the debate around new ways of living as well as the development of real proposals to update the existing housing heritage, particularly in municipal housing in Porto's context, built under the Plano de Melhoramentos of the city of Porto. |
| Description: | No panorama atual, de uma sociedade diversa e em constante transformação, no qual se agudizam desigualdades e se assiste a um crescente empobrecimento, intervir junto das comunidades mais desfavorecidas ganha particular oportunidade e relevância. Colocando sob debate o tema da habitação, este trabalho desenvolve-se em torno da necessidade de repensar as respostas que têm sido dadas ao problema da habitação, designadamente para a habitação social, destacando a oportunidade da flexibilidade como chave na criação de soluções mais adequadas aos diversos modos de vida. O Grupo de Moradias Populares da Pasteleira, construído ao abrigo do Plano de Melhoramentos para a cidade do Porto, no período de 1958 a 1960 constitui-se, assim, um oportuno caso de estudo e laboratório de ensaio. São exploradas as limitações e desafios impostos pela arquitetura e propostas intervenções que partem da possibilidade de reutilizar as estruturas edificadas existentes e que visam uma atualização das habitações, melhorando a qualidade de vida dos que aqui residem. A flexibilidade é por nós considerada o garante da necessária adaptação da célula habitacional às diferentes necessidades e dinâmicas familiares. A presente dissertação procura focar-se no desenvolvimento de soluções capazes de criar alternativas ao princípio de conceção estático e homogeneizado que tem caracterizado as soluções adotadas nestas unidades de habitação municipal e da sua relação com a cidade envolvente. Concluímos, destacando a necessidade de repensar a habitação como um direito fundamental e um investimento no bem-estar da população, tendo em consideração as complexas realidades sociais e culturais da sociedade contemporânea, assim como, destacamos a importância de projetar para resolver não só os problemas do presente, mas também do futuro. A partir da reflexão e proposta apresentada, procuramos contribuir para o debate em torno dos novos modos de habitar e para o desenvolvimento de propostas reais de atualização do património habitacional existente, em particular no contexto da habitação municipal portuense, construída ao abrigo do Plano de Melhoramentos para a cidade do Porto. |
