A política externa portuguesa para o sector dos vinhos (séculos XVIII-XX)

Abstract

Based on the concept of enodiplomacy, we proceed to a preliminary analysis of Portuguese foreign policy for the wine sector, with a view to its affirmation in international markets. The starting questions are: in Portugal, between the 18th and 20th centuries, was wine at the centrer of foreign policy? Can we consider that there was, in Portugal, a true enodiplomacy? We will seek the answer through the analysis of primary sources produced by state organs, supported by specialized bibliography on the concept of enodiplomacy, as well as historical contextualization of the problem under study. We will point out the strategies developed by the State, in particular the signing of international treaties, and agreements, investment in propaganda in foreign markets, and support for participation in international exhibitions and fairs
