Territórios de (Des)Humanização. Reflexão sobre Espaços de Crime, Privação e Resistência

Abstract

This dissertation results from the study of the urban territories of poverty, marginality and criminality and, consequently, the spaces of deprivation of liberty. It also results from the concern with the vicious circle in which these spaces are inserted and their repercussions in the urbe (the increase in criminality, homeless people, city insecurity and, therefore, the loss of urbanity). The reflection about the wide range of urban spaces that the title includes ("Territories of (De)Humanization") aims, not a solution for the presented problems, but their critical analysis. It doesn't look for a solution, but rather a critical thinking about the questions and problems raised and the visibility they lack off. It's intended to understand the political and social dynamics in the construction and transformation of the urban territories of the study, framed in the space-time scale of the last 80 years in the city of Porto. With this objective in mind, the methodological basis adopted will start from the investigation of the study cases and testimonies of those who inhabit or have inhabited these spaces, with the help of the various social sciences necessary for their understanding (Sociology, Politics and Psychology).
