Caixa de Música. O Desenho de um espaço para a prática musical.

Abstract

Music and Architecture (or Architecture and Music). A reference point was sought, attempting to study the contact between such artistic disciplines, by designing a scheme. A space is outlined for the practice of music, a changeable pavilion, exterior and interior, for spectacle and performance, teaching and study, and, eventually, even replicable. The present work aims to answer, essentially, to the underlying problems of designing spaces for music, by highlighting the existing key issues, inherent and specifically related to the exercise of music, from technical issues to ones of perception and enjoyment, in their functional but also symbolic and formal dimensions. In a theoretical investigation, a path is outlined, a method to pinpoint problems that will necessarily be present, in both the small study space of a music school and the large concert hall. The scheme of a building bound to a musical brief is proposed, a practical example of the study of problems and the implementation fo strategies(/methods) meanwhile investigated, in a space thought-out and designed by an architect. A small scale building, and of temporary nature/ makeup, but where the same issues were studied. In the design process it is simultaneously put into question - cross-checking the interpretation of different authors - its construction and public space, an investigation surrounding the concept of coreto* and its contemporary conception/ idea of artistic-musical occupation/ intervention in the space of the city.
